Why Career Assessment is important to know? How does it help me?

You may get many questions when you start thinking about it. When it happens, it is really good in terms of shining your growth. When you think only, you will get many questions, many questions lead you to many doubts, those many doubts will lead you to look for great answers. The career assessment is important for anyone to understand , how a variety of personal attributes such as data, motivation, aptitude, skills, preferences of choices impact positively with a potential success and satisfaction with different career options as desired and adopting to a work environment too. Getting a right career option, best work environment is not easy to get it. Having experienced in my professional life of thirty years plus have given me a space to apply it to those  younger generations who feel, shiny object is everywhere and it is easily available? If it is true, then why the whole world is looking for career guidance, life coach, career mentor to teach and train?

You might have heard the proverb,

An Idle mind is a devil’s workshop? 

Such idleness refer to living in a comfort zone having no further urge to think more and achieve any? He or she may be well off and enjoying from business inheritance? But, it is to address the most of the people who are breadwinners for his or her family? Does it suit them?

It is also applicable, when a person is losing interests in life having no guidance, no motivation to pursue. Or simply feeling, nothing to achieve, let me live as it is? They are the most pathetic community need lot of help and support to grow with a meaningful guidance.

In some cases, parents do take care of children irrespective of their ages also fall into this category. It is applicable in many places and it should be taught in a productive way. You should teach them, how to catch the fish and cook it.

In nutshell, idling stage in life is so dangerous and unproductive, it should be reviewed at an early stage itself and nip in the bud. The studies on human and animals suggest that being idle will lead you to a harmful changes in body metabolism, so, beware of it.

Holland -RIASEC Test

THE PERSONALITY ASSESSMENT: 

The Personality (career) Assessment tool would measure six distinct types of interest such as

  4. Social

  5. Enterprising

  6. Conventional

This Holland’s R-I-A-S-E-C  structure which is rich and extensive research history, widely accepted is used by many career advisors and counsellors. It is easy to use, representing varieties of occupation and also its complexity levels, has merits for extensive developmental efforts, client’s inputs, constructive reliable evidence.

8 INTELLIGENCE ASSESSMENT: 

Howard Gardner is a psychologist and Professor at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education. Based on his study of many people from different walks of life in everyday circumstances and professions, Gardner developed the theory of multiple intelligences.

According to Gardner, intelligence is:

  • The ability to create an effective product or offer a service that is valued in a culture
  • A set of skills that make it possible for a person to solve problems in life.
  • The potential for finding or creating solutions for problems, which involves gathering new knowledge.
  • Every individual possesses a bit of intelligence in varied fields.
  • It is obvious ,each one has a varied intellectual composition to review.
  • By addressing the multiple intelligence of a student, one’s learning curve of education could be improved.
  • This intelligences may define the human species.
  • Multiple intelligence can be either strengthened or ignored.

SMART – It helps for Goal Setting: 

S.M.A.R.T  is a goal setting assessment criteria for students to find their true potential, bring out their interest and set S.M.A.R.T.  life or career objectives such as SPECIFIC, MEASURABLE, ACHIEVABLE/ ATTAINABLE, REASONABLE/ REALISTIC, TIMEBOUND for them to assess and conclude what is next step to proceed. If the goal is already chosen, then its compatibility shall be revived and matched which helps further steps in a confident way to pursue.

The goals are classified as SHORT TERM GOAL and LONG TERM GOAL.

SHORT TERM GOAL: It is a simple, easy to achieve and focus on things that could happen in a short span like 6 months or one year.

LONG TERM GOAL:  It involves focusing in a deeper level having sub tasks , well planned that could happen likely in 3 years or five years or ten years. 

Goal  setting is important in every one’s life. When you see above SMART template, you are seeing five actionable task in executing the goal. Every task has milestones to achieve and each milestone need to be illustrated with descriptive details and time. Then the action starts. By this way, the progressive milestone could be reviewed time to time and any hindrance or loop holes faced while execution could be plugged out in a right time.

The Work Attitude assessment at the workplace allows pinpointing the importance of career choice you have opted for and its beneficial aspects. It helps to balance the work-life based on the similarity between the work values and the environment involved.
